Three Second Half Goals Propel Muhlenberg Past Cougars in ECAC Championship

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (11/24/19) – Three second half goals propelled Muhlenberg College to a 3-0 victory over the Kean University men's soccer team in the ECAC Division III Men's Soccer Championship match at Stevenson University on Sunday evening.

Kevin Hagan assisted on two goals for the Mules who capture their first ECAC Championship since 1988 and finish the season at 13-6-2 overall. Felipe Lucas, Bend Alexandre and Max Acosta were all named to the All-Tournament team for the Cougars who finish their season at 12-8-3 overall.

After a scoreless first half in which Kean held the advantage on shots (12-4), Muhlenberg broke the contest wide open with two goals in less than a minute span for a 2-0 lead in the 63rd minute.

The Mules added a third score in the 79th minute with a goal coming on a double assist.

Despite the loss, Kean edged Muhlenberg on shots (20-16) and corners (5-4). The Cougars were called for 20 fouls and had two cards issued. Alex Nicol tallied four shots, while Acosta recorded three and both Lucas and Alexandre tallied two. Daniel Calderon, Calvin Carbajal, Dylan Evande, Jake Santos, Nick Kovach, Mario Ramirez Jr., and Brandon Grine all posted one shot apiece.
