CAMDEN, N.J. (12/14/19) – Three players scored in double figures as a late second half comeback bid from the Kean University men's basketball team fell short in the 68-63 loss to Rutgers-Camden on Saturday afternoon.
Issac Destin finished with 28 points and 13 rebounds for the Scarlet Raptors who improve to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
Jailen Jamison totaled 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Cougars who fall to 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the NJAC.
The opening half saw neither side hold larger than a five-point lead for the first 16 minutes. Camden closed the opening stanza on a 13-2 run to take a 40-28 advantage at halftime. The Scarlet Raptors built upon their halftime lead to the largest of the game at 49-33 with 15:04 remaining.
Camden maintained that advantage until just under the four-minute mark when a 12-4 run by the Cougars cut Rutgers 61-51 lead down to 64-63 with 32 seconds remaining. Jamison and
Jeff Cooper combined for eight points during the 3:14 run.
The Scarlet Raptors eventually iced the contest from the charity stripe with four consecutive free throws in the final 30 seconds. Camden used the foul line to their advantage in the second half as they went 14-for-20 compared to 4-for-5 for the Cougars.
Cooper finished with 10 points, while
Jared Latane totaled 13 points,
Kendall Blount and
Jah'Mir Miller both tallied seven points and four rebounds.

Adam Hutchinson and the Cougars will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 22nd in Newark, N.J. against the Division I Highlanders of NJIT for an exhibition game at 2:00 p.m.
