THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (12/30/19) - Three players scored in double figures as the Kean University men's basketball team closed out 2019 with a 70-52 victory over SUNY Maritime on Monday evening.
Kendall Blount finished with 15 points and five rebounds for the Cougars who improve to 3-8 overall. Brendan McGovern knocked down five triples and finished with 15 points for the Privateers who fall to 4-5 overall.
After a back and forth opening 13 minutes, Kean closed out the half with a 16-9 run over the final six minutes to a hold a 33-25 halftime advantage. Jailen Jamison and Mario Gunn combined for eight of the final 16 first half points.
The second half saw the Cougars open with an 18-6 run to propel themselves in front for good. Jared Latane and Blount tallied 10 during the run as Kean took a 48-31 lead with 13:30 remaining.
Nate Lyles finished with 14 points and five rebounds, while Gunn totaled 12 points and six rebounds. Latane totaled seven points, six rebounds and six assists in the victory,
Head Coach Adam Hutchinson and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 4th, hosting the Bears of St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn at 3:00 p.m.
