MONTCLAIR, N.J. (12/7/19) – Three starters scored in double figures as the Kean University men's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to Montclair State University, 96-79 on Saturday afternoon.
Irving Callender IV finished with 17 points for the Red Hawks who improve to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the NJAC.
Jared Latane posted a team-high 15 points for the Cougars who fall to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in the NJAC.
After falling behind 9-0 to start the contest, Kean opened their afternoon scoring with a 9-2 run to put themselves back into the game at 9-9 with 14:59 remaining.
Despite the mini run to open the game, MSU never surrendered the lead, but Kean stayed within striking distance at 23-18 with 9:26 to play in the opening stanza.
The Red Hawks answered by breaking the game wide open with a 23-10 run over the next 5:49 to propel Montclair to a 50-34 halftime advantage. The second half saw MSU extend their lead to 30 and never looked back to remain unbeaten in conference play.
Jeff Cooper totaled 14 points and six rebounds, while
Kendall Blount tallied 13 points and seven boards.
Nate Lyles added 11 points and eight rebounds, while
Jailen Jamison totaled eight points, five assists and four rebounds.
