Union, N.J. (2/17/19) – Frank LoGiudice was 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored to lead the Kean University baseball team to a 13-9 marathon win over the College at Brockport on Sunday afternoon.
The matchup was almost four hours long as the runs came in clusters. Kean improves to 3-0 to start the season while Brockport falls to 0-1 in their opener.
The Golden Eagles scratched across a single run in the top of the first after taking advantage of a two out throwing miscue by the Cougars. Anthony Eaton capitalized two batters later with an RBI single and a 1-0 lead. Kean took the lead in the bottom of the same inning with five runs and no hits. The Cougars took advantage of five walks, three wild pitches and a balk.
Kean added to their lead with three more in the second with RBI singles from Chris Vetter, LoGiudice and Nick Polizzano.
Brockport cut the deficit to two with a five spot in the fourth inning. Daniel DelGaizo ripped a bases loaded two RBI double while Tommy Kretzler and Lou Miceli each registered RBI with a single and sac fly respectively. The Golden Eagles would regain the lead in the top of the sixth with three more runs for a 9-8 advantage. Eaton gave Brockport the lead with a two RBI double.
That lead was short lived as the Cougars rallied in their next at-bat with four runs to take the lead for good. LoGiudice recorded a two RBI single while Zachary Marzano drove in LoGiudice with a triple. Polizzano rounded out the scoring with an RBI sacrifice.
For the Cougars Polizzano finished with three RBI while Derek Walker was 2-for-4 with three runs scored in the leadoff spot. Eaton was 3-for-4 with three RBI for Brockport in the loss.
On the mound Daniel Chiusano (1-0) earned the win in relief. He tossed three and a third innings allowing just three hits and one walk while fanning three.
Kean returns to action on Monday when they host Alvernia University at 3 p.m.
