Baseball Breezes Past MSU, 23-8

Montclair, N.J. (4/17/19) – The Kean University baseball team pounded out 23 runs on 27 hits on their way to their eighth NJAC win of the season by the final of 23-8 against Montclair State University on Wednesday afternoon.

Mike Perone Jr., who finished the day at the plate 4-for-4 with five RBI, was one of three Cougars who collected four hits on the afternoon (Derek Walker and Zach Joe).  Every starter for Kean tallied a hit in the contest.

Kean (22-11, 8-3 NJAC) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in their first two at-bats and didn't look back, scoring in all but two innings.  In the first frame, Nick Polizzano and Walker each recorded two RBI hits for a 4-0 advantage.  Perone continued the trend in the second inning with a two RBI single and Frank LoGiudice followed with an RBI single and an early 7-0 lead.

The Cougars led by as many as 20 (23-3 in the top of the eighth) before the Red Hawks (10-20, 1-10 NJAC) strung together five runs and three hits in the bottom of the eighth.

Daniel Chiusano (3-1) earned the win as he tossed six innings allowing two earned runs and nine hits.  He walked three and struck out one.

John Carello and Zachary Marzano each recorded three hits in the win.

The two teams return to action on Thursday at Jim Hynes Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
