Late Header Propels Cougars Past Greensboro

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (8/31/19) – A header by Joaovictor Lebrao with two seconds remaining propelled the Kean University men's soccer team to their second straight victory with a 2-1 decision over Greensboro College in the Steve Shaw Classic at Christopher Newport University.

Lebrao's first collegiate goal helped the Cougars improve to 2-0 overall. Darli Mihindou scored a goal for the Pride who fall to 0-2 overall.

Kean struck first in the 16th minute as Felipe Lucas scored his 11th career goal and the first of the 2019 season, when Max Acosta played a cross into the middle of the box and Lucas ripped a hard liner into the right corner of the net.

The Pride evened the contest at 1-1 less than three minutes later. Neither side would find the back of the net until Lebrao's header in the 90th minute. Alex Nicol took the final corner of the game and played the ball into the box. Dylan Evande's initial header was blocked and the ball bounced in the direction of Lebrao who headed the ball into the right corner of the net.

Kean edged Greensboro on shots (18-14) and corner kicks (10-9). Lucas and Acosta both tallied three shots apiece, while Nicol, Matthew Almeida, Evande, and Nick Kovach all took two shots apiece. Dillon Konzelmann made seven saves and improved to 2-0 in goal.

Head Coach Peter-John Falloon and the Cougars will return to action in Patchogue, N.Y. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, against the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College of Long Island at 7:00 p.m.
