Women's Basketball Powers Past William Paterson

Union, N.J. (2/8/20) – Senior Payce Lange led all players with a game-high 26 points as the Kean University women's basketball team powered past William Paterson University by the final of 63-46.

The Cougars improve to 11-4 in conference play and 15-7 overall.  The win splits the season series between the two teams.  Lange finished with 11 rebounds on the day, good for a double-double.

The contest was nip-and-tuck before Kean scored six points in the final 12 seconds of the first half to break a 29-point deadlock.  A foul and technical foul by the Pioneers (10-12, 8-7 NJAC) sent the Cougars to the line and Lange and Shannon McCoy converted for four quick points.  With possession again after the foul, McCoy found space in the lane for a bucket, ending the short burst at intermission.

The Cougars would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the contest and added breathing room early in the fourth quarter, taking advantage of turnovers with fast break points.  Kean extended the lead out to as many as 17 (61-44) thanks to a three-pointer from McCoy, who finished the night with 16 points.

McCoy also added six rebounds while teammate Cindy Foresta recorded six points, five rebounds and five steals.

Brianna Brooks led the Pioneers with 17 points to go along with seven rebounds.  Alisa Giordano was also in double-figures with 10 points.

Kean returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Stockton University.
