Cougars Remain Unbeaten After Sweeping Final Day of Grand Slam Triangle Classic

RALEIGH, N.C. (3/1/20) – The Kean University softball team improved to 8-0 after defeating the University of Lynchburg and the host William Peace University on the final day of the Grand Slam Triangle Classic

Kean 4, Lynchburg 2
Julie Raba went 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Cougars (7-0) opened Sunday's action with a victory over the Hornets (5-4). Kean scored four runs on four hits over the first three innings.  Raba's lone RBI came in the top of the first driving home Taryn DiGiacomo, after leadoff batter Caroline Ratti scored on a defensive miscue.

Ratti crossed the plate again in the third after a defensive miscue by the center fielder. Gabriella Fredette earned a RBI after a bases loaded walk that put the Cougars in front 4-0.

Lynchburg scored two runs on back-to-back RBI's in the fourth, but DiGiacomo tossed three innings of hitless softball to secure the victory.

DiGiacomo struck out seven batters and improved to 4-0 in the complete game victory.

Fredette finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, while Hailey Sweeney went 1-for-1 with three RBI's and a run scored as the Cougars (8-0) earned the victory over the host Pacers (3-4) after  a huge sixth inning.

Kean trailed 2-0 until the sixth, when the Cougars tallied five runs on four hits. Kean evened the contest at 2-2 after back-to-back RBI's from Fredette and Jenn Majorczak, before Sweeney came in as a pinch hitter and smacked a three run homer to put the Cougars in front for good at 5-2.

Annabella Marino earned her first collegiate victory in the circle after striking out a batter in the complete game victory.
