Radnor, Pa. (3/11/20) – Chris Ciaccio and Zachary Marzano combined for seven RBI as the Kean University baseball team topped Cabrini University 14-11 on Wednesday afternoon.
In the first action since March 1st for the #8 Cougars, Kean registered 16 hits with eight walks to improve to 8-2 overall this spring.
The Cougars jumped out to an early 7-0 lead thanks to a six spot in the second inning. Josh Jackson, Conner DeForge, and Philip Mahlik all recorded RBI singles while Marzano registered two RBI with his single as Kean collected seven hits in the frame. Ciaccio rounded out the scoring with a bases loaded walk.
Cabrini (5-8) answered with five runs in the same inning, aided by four hit batters and an error. Marzano added insurance in the top of the fourth with a solo shot. After trading single runs over the next few innings, Kean pushed their advantage out to eight with five runs in the seventh. Those five runs proved to be the difference as Cabrini rallied late pulling within three for the final.
Mahlik was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI while Ciaccio was 1-for-4 with a double and four RBI. Marzano was 3-for-6 with three RBI and a homer. In total, six Cougars finished with multi-hits.
Justin Hernandez (2-0) picked up the win in relief allowing no runs in one and two thirds innings of work. Senior Derek Walker earned a save with three innings of work allowing two runs while recording two strikeouts.
Kean is next slated to play St. John Fisher on Sunday at home.
