UNION, N.J. (10/30/21) – Two first-half goals helped the third seed Kean University men's soccer team advanced to the New Jersey Athletic Conference semifinals with a 3-1 victory over sixth seed TCNJ on Saturday afternoon.
Erick Chicas,
Sadeiki Roberts, and
Raonne Dias scored for the Cougars who improve to 12-4-1 overall and advance to Wednesday's NJAC semifinals against second seed Rutgers-Newark. Justin Dominique scored for the Lions who finish their season at 8-10-1 overall.
Chicas tallied the first goal in the 27
th minute as the junior scored at the near post on a wide-open net. The junior ran onto a through ball from
Isaac Guerrero, which pulled the keeper out and allowed Chicas to score undefended.
Roberts notched the second goal of the afternoon in the 34
th minute as the sophomore took a through ball from
David Garcia, made a defender fall, and scored on the far post for the 2-0 lead.
The Lions answered with a goal just before halftime as Kean led 2-1 at intermission.
The Cougars added an insurance goal in the 69
th minute as Dias scored near the far post after the ball was served in from Guerrero during a corner kick.
Kean led on shots (15-5), shots on goal (5-4), and corner kicks (6-2).
Dias tallied a team-high three shots for the Cougars.
Dominic Ridge made three saves in 90 minutes of work.
