Kean Sweeps Its Way to ECAC Championship

ALFRED, N.Y. (11/13/21) – Anne Beckemeyer was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player as the top seed Kean University women's volleyball team captured the 2021 ECAC Women's Volleyball Championship with a 3-0 straight sets sweep of third seed Rutgers-Camden at Alfred State College on Saturday morning.

Beckemeyer finished with 15 kills and four solo blocks as the Cougars finish the season at 18-12 overall and captured their first ECAC title since 2013. Erica Nebrich and Isabella Choice each totaled eight kills for the Scarlet Raptors who finish their season at 21-10 overall.

In set one, Beckemeyer and Taylor Micheaux each tallied eight kills as the Cougars used an 8-4 run to extend their lead from 5-4 to 13-9. Kean hit .233 and held Camden to a .105 hitting percentage in the 25-20 victory.

In set two, Kean and Camden both hit north of .300 as the Cougars closed with a 3-1 run for the 25-23 victory. The Cougars finished the set with back-to-back kills from Morgan Hall and Micheaux.

In the final set, Beckemeyer totaled seven kills on 12 swings as Kean posted a .395 hitting percentage in a dominating 25-14 victory. The Cougars used a 10-3 run to spark them to the Championship.

Hall finished with 10 kills and a .600 hitting percentage, while Ashley Smith totaled 10 kills and a .346 hitting percentage. Kylie Brua totaled 39 assists and four digs, while Sedona Gaard collected 22 digs.

Hall, Smith, and Gaard were all selected to the All-Tournament Team along with Beckemeyer.
