Ray Tallies 42 Kills as Men’s Volleyball Drops Doubleheader with #12 Lancaster Bible

LANCASTER, Pa. (2/17/21) – Jared Ray tallied 42 kills over two matches as the #13 Kean University men's volleyball team dropped a doubleheader with #12 Lancaster Bible College in the season opener on Wednesday evening.

Lancaster Bible 3, Kean 1
Ray finished with 20 kills and six digs as the Cougars (0-1) fell in their opening match of 2021. After the Chargers (3-3) took the opening two sets, Kean won their first set of the season with a 25-20 score and a .214 hitting percentage. Ray tallied eight kills on 14 swings, while Jonathan Meyer collected seven digs in the set three victory.

Meyer finished with 11 digs for the match, while Zach Gerken totaled 27 assists and four aces. Kyran Flahive totaled 12 kills for the Chargers in the victory.

Lancaster Bible 3, Kean 2
Ray posted a double-double with 22 kills and 15 digs as the Cougars (0-2) fell in a five-set thriller with the Chargers (4-3).

Kean captured the first two sets with above .350 hitting percentages in both set victories. Ray tallied 10 and Seth Russell posted eight kills over the opening two sets. Russell finished with 17 kills and eight digs for the match.

Lancaster Bible rallied to capture the final three sets as three players recorded double-digit kills.

Luke Frankenfield finished with a career-high 47 assists, while Meyer collected 11 digs.   

Head Coach Charlie Ginex and the Cougars will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 21st in Jersey City, N.J. against the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University at 2:00 p.m.
