Third Quarter Surge Sends TCNJ Past Women's Basketball

Ewing, N.J. (2/20/21)Shannon Devitt led The College of New Jersey with her second straight double-double as TCNJ topped the Kean University women's basketball team by the final of 70-47.

Shannon McCoy led the Cougars (0-6, 0-6 NJAC) with 12 points while playing 35 minutes.

Kean once again got off to a good start, turning an early 4-3 deficit into a seven point lead with a quick 8-0 run.  Freshman Brittany Graff provided two fastbreak layups, McCoy added a layin of her own and senior Casey Filiault used a steal for three points of her own.

A layup from Devitt with 26 seconds to go in the first quarter gave the Lions (6-0, 6-0 NJAC) what would be the lead for good (14-13). Kean kept the deficit to single digits for most of the second quarter, trailing 31-23 at the break.

The College of New Jersey then took over in the third period, outscoring Kean 26-10.  The Lions then cruised from there to remain undefeated this season.

Filiault finished with nine points and eight rebounds for the Cougars while Devitt ended the game with 22 points, 11 rebounds and four steals.

Kean looks to close out the regular season next weekend when they take on Rutgers-Camden.
