UNION, N.J. (2/27/21) – Five school records were broken as the Kean University women's swimming team earned their first New Jersey Athletic Conference victory under Head Coach
Chris Swenson and their first conference victory since 1995 with a 177-59 virtual decision over William Paterson University in the season opener on Saturday.
"This was our first NJAC win since Jan. 10
th, 1995 and I am incredibly proud of the complete team performance we had today", said Swenson.
The Cougars won all 13 events as they improved to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC, while the Pioneers fall to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.
Brianna Shaw had a stellar debut as the freshman established three new school records placing first in the 500 free (5:18.62), 200 free (1:59.92) and the 100 IM (1:04.32) events.
Kaylie Berkman also made a big splash as the newcomer won three events and set new times in the 50 fly (27.27) and the 100 fly (58.66).
Lauren Beyer and
Isabel DeSanno each won two events apiece, with
Sarah Sissel recording a first place decision in the 50 free.
Amanda Davis placed second in three different events.
"This is another major step for our program and I can't wait to see what we do next week at Montclair."

th against both Montclair State University and The College of New Jersey for a dual meet beginning at 4:00 p.m. Kean will face MSU in-person, while TCNJ will compete virtually.
