Union, N.J. (3/26/21) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team suffered a 12-10 setback against visiting Stockton University on Friday afternoon.
Dana Meehan led the Cougars (0-2) with four goals and an assist.
Kean fell into an early 2-0 hole but a goal from Katie Pileggi fed from Meehan cut the deficit in half 10 minutes into the action. From there the teams see-sawed with Stockton still holding on to the lead, but never more than three. The Ospreys (1-0) held onto to a slim 7-5 lead going into the break.
The Cougars closed within one off a goal from Sarah Wagner from Pileggi a minute into the second half, but Stockton responded and rolled off five straight to take a 12-6 advantage with 16 minutes to go.
Kean didn't go quietly and scored the game's final four goals but it wasn't enough down the stretch in the loss.
Jennifer Toal, Allie Bremer and Michelle Pascrell each had three goals for Stockton in the win.
Pileggi finished with one goal, three assists and four draw controls while Emily Bretschneider added six draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Kean will be back in action on Tuesday when they host The College of New Jersey.
