UNION N.J. (3/31/21) – Two late second half goals lifted the Kean University field hockey team to a 3-1 victory over William Paterson University in their spring regular season finale on Wednesday evening.
Peyton Mann,
Krista O'Grady and
Lia DiPiazza all scored for the Cougars who finish their spring regular season at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.
Catie Wilson scored for the Pioneers who fall to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC.
The Cougars opened up the scoring with a goal just before halftime as
Ja'Carra Jackson fed the ball left to Mann who tapped it home near the far post for the 1-0 lead.
William Paterson notched just their second goal of the season on the other side of halftime. The contest remained deadlocked at 1-1 until the 53
rd minute when O'Grady collected a loose ball from a Pioneer defensive save and scored in the back of the cage for the 2-1 advantage.
Kean answered one more time just a minute later as DiPiazza converted on a penalty stroke goal in the 54
th minute.
DiPiazza totaled six shots, while Mann and Jackson each recorded four apiece.
Belly Reynoso and
Jenna Flemings combined for 60 minutes in goal and Reynoso tallied two saves.
