UNION, N.J. (3/6/21) – Anthony Porter established new career-highs in goals, assists, points and groundballs as the Kean University men's lacrosse team dispatched Division II Felician University, 19-7 in the season opener on Saturday.
Porter finished with eight points, six groundballs, five assists and three goals for the Cougars who improve to 1-0 overall.
Robert Grasso totaled five points on five goals for the Golden Falcons who fall to 0-2 overall.
Kean opened the contest with six straight goals, including two from
Kyle Ryder and one apiece from
Dean Gillette, Porter,
Brady Moore and
Matthew Schwartz. Porter assisted on two of the Cougars first six goals.
After Felician finally got on the board with a score midway through the second quarter, Kean closed out the first half with goals by Ryder, Porter and Moore. Porter added another three assists as the Cougars maintained a 10-1 advantage at halftime.
The second half saw Kean stretch their lead to 12-1, before Felician notched back-to-back goals. The Cougars finished the third quarter with Porter tallying a hat-trick and
Alex Hufford scoring his first goal of the season.
In the fourth quarter, Kean put the reserves in as
Justin Arredondo,
Noah Costanzo,
Anthony Leone,
Michael Shapiro and
Cormac McCabe all notched their first goals of the season.
On the defensive side,
Steven Thorne collected five groundballs, while
Matt Tanis,
Joseph McNulty, and Ryder all tallied four groundballs apiece.
Jonathan Duffy and
Matt Palmieri both totaled two groundballs and two caused turnovers.
On faceoffs,
Nicholas Moffa went a perfect 12-for-12 with three groundballs, while
Max Stevens went 12-for-17 with five groundballs. In goal,
Thomas Francy,
Devin Reppert and
Michael Yukas combined for 60 minutes in goal and seven saves.

Shelley Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action in Montclair, N.J. on Friday, Mar. 12th against the Red Hawks of Montclair State University for a non-conference contest beginning at 6:00 p.m.
