UNION, N.J. (4/10/21) – The #8 Kean University softball team had their 12 game winning streak snapped as the Cougars were swept by the College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon.
TCNJ 2, Kean 0
Maddie Carlson and
Maria Bonfanti both went 2-for-3 as the Cougars (12-1, 2-1 NJAC) 12 game-winning streak came to an end with a 2-0 loss to the Lions (6-1, 5-0 NJAC) in the opener.
The Cougars were held scoreless, tallied just six hits and left seven runners on base in the loss. TCNJ scored in the first on a sacrifice fly to right field and a solo homerun in the fourth.
Taryn DiGiacomo struck out three batters in the complete game loss. DiGiacomo and
Paige Metz each recorded a hit for the Cougars.
TCNJ 6, Kean 2
DiGiacomo finished 2-for-4, while
Autaum Hilyer and
Annabella Marino each recorded a hit as the Cougars (12-2, 2-2 NJAC) were held to just two runs and five hits in the nightcap loss to the Lions (7-1, 6-0 NJAC).
After TCNJ notched two runs in the top half of the first, Kean scored their first run of the afternoon when Carlson hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Metz and the Cougars trailed, 2-1.
After the Lions added another run in the third, Kean cut the TCNJ lead to 3-2 in the fifth when Bonfanti scored on a throwing error.
The Lions added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh with a sacrifice fly and a two-run homer.
