UNION, N.J. (4/3/21) – Jared Ray totaled 19 kills and posted a .517 hitting percentage as the #11 Kean University men's volleyball team advanced to the Continental Volleyball Conference semifinals with a 3-0 straight sets sweep of Marymount University on Saturday afternoon.
Jake Milnazik finished with nine kills and posted a .316 hitting percentage for the third seeded Cougars who improve to 9-3 overall and advance to Wednesday's semifinal against the second seed Eagles of Juniata College at a time to be determined.
Raymond Tarasi totaled seven kills for the sixth seeded Saints who finish their season at 7-7 overall.
Ray posted six kills as the Cougars hit .357 in the 25-19 set one victory. Kean opened with a 7-1 run to take a 10-6 advantage. Marymount hung around and cut the Cougars lead in half at 16-14. Kean closed the set with a 9-5 run that included Ray spiking down four kills and
Ian Capp tallying an ace and an assist.
Ray added another eight kills on 12 swings as the Cougars posted a .259 hitting percentage in the 25-17 set two victory. After trading the first 10 points, Kean opened things up with a 10-3 run for a 20-12 lead. The run was highlighted by two kills from
Maxwell Thompson and Ray. Kean closed the set with two more kills from the sophomore outside hitter.
The final set saw Milnazik and Ray combine for 11 kills on 15 swings in the 25-15 set three victory. Milnazik posted six kills and Ray tallied five kills as Kean hit a match-high .458 in the final set. Kean was sparked by a 12-4 run that took the set from 2-2 early to a 14-7 advantage.
Capp finished with 24 assists, six aces, five digs and three kills, while
Seth Russell posted four kills and two block assists. Thompson tallied three kills, three digs and two blocks assists, while
Zach Gerken totaled 12 assists.

th for the CVC semifinals against the Eagles of Juniata College.
