Softball Swept in NJAC Championship Series

EWING, N.J. (5/14/21) – Maria Bonfanti, Gabriella Fredette, and Julie Raba each tallied two hits apiece as the fourth seed Kean University softball team was swept by the second seed College of New Jersey Lions in the doubleheader of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Series on Friday afternoon.

TCNJ 1, Kean 0
Raba went 2-for-3 as the Cougars (25-8) were held to just six hits and left eight runners in the one run loss to the Lions (22-3) in the opener.

Taryn DiGiacomo, Fredette, Maddie Carlson, and Bonfanti each recorded a hit in the loss.

The game remained scoreless into the sixth when TCNJ notched the only run of the game with an RBI double from Lauren Conroy. Kean threatened in the seventh when Paige Metz reached on a hit by pitch and Bonfanti reached on a fielder's choice. The Lions made a late pitching change, by bringing in Alanna Namit to close the door and earn the save.

In the circle, DiGiacomo fell to 14-5 overall with four strikeouts in the complete game loss.

Fredette finished 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Bonfanti went 1-for-2 as the Cougars (25-9) were held to just two hits in the game two loss.

After a scoreless first four innings, the Lions (23-3) notched six runs on eight hits to hold a 6-0 advantage after 5 ½ innings. Kean secured their first and only run of the championship series when Fredette tripled to lead off the seventh, before being driven home by Nicole Vassallo.

Annabella Marino took the loss and struck out a batter in five innings pitched. Karly Messina and Heather Clevenger also made appearances in the circle across the final two innings.
