Men’s Lacrosse Bows Out of NCAA Tournament

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (5/15/21) – Brady Moore and Anthony Porter combined for nine points as the Kean University men's lacrosse team bowed out of the NCAA Tournament with a 15-9 loss to #12 Stevenson University in the NCAA first round on Saturday afternoon.

Marc Poust totaled 18 saves for the Mustangs who improve to 9-1 overall and advance to tomorrow's second round matchup against Christopher Newport at 1:00 pm. Porter finished with five points on four assists and a goal for the Cougars who finish their season at 10-2 overall.  

The first half saw the Cougars play aggressively on both sides of the ball, scoring five times and forcing the Mustangs into 16 turnovers. Moore and Porter connected twice in the first quarter as Kean led 2-1 after 15 minutes of action. The Cougars added three unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 5-2 lead into intermission. Porter assisted on his third goal of the half as Kean held Stevenson to just five shots on goal.

The third quarter saw the Mustangs outscore the Cougars 7-2 to take their first lead of the game. Stevenson closed the quarter with four unanswered goals as Kean trailed 9-7 entering the fourth quarter. Moore scored twice in the fourth, but Stevenson added six more goals and extended their lead to 15-9 before the final horn.

Moore notched four goals, while Connor Batjer, Justin Arredondo, George Capria and Steven Thorne each tallied a goal.

On faceoffs, Max Stevens went 19-for-25 with 13 groundballs.

On defense, Gregory Castor totaled three groundballs and three caused turnovers, while Matt Tanis finished with three caused turnovers and a groundball. Moore collected four groundballs, while Porter, Matt Palmieri and Joseph McNulty all tallied three apiece.

In goal, Thomas Francy made six saves in 60 minutes of work.
