MAHWAH, N.J. (9/14/21) – Anne Beckemeyer and
Ashley Smith combined for 22 kills as the Kean University women's volleyball team bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Ramapo College in their New Jersey Athletic Conference Opener on Tuesday evening.
Beckemeyer finished with 12 kills, four aces and four blocks for the Cougars who improve to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC.
Stephanie Ross totaled 16 digs, eight kills and four aces for the Roadrunners who remain winless at 0-4 and 0-1 in the NJAC.
Kean handled the first two sets fairly easily with 25-12 and 25-15 victories. Beckemeyer tallied six kills over the opening two sets, including four in the first as the Cougars posted a .400 hitting percentage.
In the third set, Ramapo won 25-23 with a late 3-1 run, which prevented Kean from taking the sweep. The Cougars posted eight errors and were held to a .073 hitting percentage in the loss.
In set four, Kean used a 5-1 run to stretch their lead to 11-6, before Ramapo responded with four straight points to cut the lead to 11-9. The Cougars extended their lead back to six at 18-11 with a 7-2 run. Ramapo answered one more time with five straight points to shave their deficit down to three at 19-16. The Cougars ended the match the same way the Roadrunners closed the previous set with a 3-1 run.
Kylie Brua totaled 34 assists, while
Amanda DeLio collected 15 digs.
Taylor Micheaux finished with 12 digs and two aces.
