UNION, N.J. (9/1/21) – Kayla Thornton and
Morgan Hall each posted 10 kills apiece as the Kean University women's volleyball team captured its season-opener with a sweep of the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday.
Kylie Brua finished with 33 assists and
Amanda DeLio tallied 10 digs as the Cougars (1-0) swept the Dolphins in the opening match of the season.
The first two sets saw Kean play back and forth volleyball with CMSV before using late runs to pull away. The Cougars took the opening set 25-19 after using an 8-3 run to close it out. The second set saw Kean pull away with an 8-1 run for the 25-18 victory.
In the final set, Kean used a 9-2 run early to have enough breathing room for the 25-20 victory. The Cougars posted a .225 hitting percentage and held CMSV to a .063 hitting percentage.
Kean/Centenary (Declared a No-Contest)
The second match of the evening against Centenary was declared a no-contest after heavy rain from outside leaked inside and flooded the Harwood Arena floor. The Cougars trailed 18-17 in set two when play was stopped.
Ashley Smith had five kills and six digs up to that point.
