UNION, N.J. (9/25/21) – A goal in each half lifted the Kean University men's soccer team to a 2-1 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over Rutgers-Camden on Saturday afternoon.
Raonne Dias and
Nikolaos Theoudoulidis each tallied a goal for the Cougars who improve to 6-1-1 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC.
Skyler Diggs notched a goal for the Scarlet Raptors who fall to 4-3-2 overall and 0-2 in the NJAC.
Kean scored its first half goal in the 22
nd minute when Dias scored on a header that was served in from
Danny Guillen during a corner situation. The Cougars maintained the 1-0 lead into the locker room as Kean held a 10-1 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes.
In a very chippy second half, the Cougars increased their lead to 2-0 in the 77
th minute when Theoudoulidis converted on a penalty kick. Kean earned the PK after
Tabi Essa Jr. was fouled inside the box.
Camden notched a late goal in the 88
th minute, but the Scarlet Raptors couldn't find the equalizer despite being awarded two corner kicks in the final minute.
Kean led on shots (18-9) and shots on goal (8-5), while Camden held the advantage in corners (6-4).
