Mann Tallies Double Overtime Game Winner to Lift #10 Field Hockey Past Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. (9/8/21) – Peyton Mann tallied the game-winner in the 74th minute as the #10 Kean University field hockey team remained unbeaten with a 2-1 double overtime victory over Arcadia University on Wednesday evening.

Mann added an assist for the Cougars who improve to 3-0 overall. Gracie Fenner made 16 saves for the Knights who fall to 1-2 overall.

The Cougars scored first in the 15th minute as Megan Keeney scored off a Mann pass. The pass was tipped by a defender and rolled towards the grad student who knocked it home for the 1-0 lead.

Kean had opportunities to increase their lead, but failed to capitalize despite outshooting the Knights 14-4 over the final three quarters. The Cougars actually scored with less than six minutes to play, but the goal was waived off by the official.

Arcadia evened the contest at 1-1 in the 57th minute as Lindsay Kuss got behind the goalie after the insert of a corner and scored at close range.

After a scoreless first overtime, Kean would notch the game winner in the second extra session as Lia DiPiazza dribbled up the right side and fired a pass across the cage, which allowed Mann to score near the far post.

Jordan Thompson led the Cougars with eight shots, while DiPiazza tallied seven. Jenna Flemings improved to 3-0 after making three saves in 74 minutes.

Kean led Arcadia on shots (34-7), shots on goal (18-4) and corners (14-6).

Head Coach Leslie LaFronz and the Cougars will return to action in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Saturday, Sept. 11th, against the #18 Brewers of Vassar College at 1:00 p.m.
