GLENSIDE, Pa. (9/8/21) – Peyton Mann tallied the game-winner in the 74
th minute as the #10 Kean University field hockey team remained unbeaten with a 2-1 double overtime victory over Arcadia University on Wednesday evening.
Mann added an assist for the Cougars who improve to 3-0 overall.
Gracie Fenner made 16 saves for the Knights who fall to 1-2 overall.
The Cougars scored first in the 15
th minute as
Megan Keeney scored off a Mann pass. The pass was tipped by a defender and rolled towards the grad student who knocked it home for the 1-0 lead.
Kean had opportunities to increase their lead, but failed to capitalize despite outshooting the Knights 14-4 over the final three quarters. The Cougars actually scored with less than six minutes to play, but the goal was waived off by the official.
Arcadia evened the contest at 1-1 in the 57
th minute as
Lindsay Kuss got behind the goalie after the insert of a corner and scored at close range.
After a scoreless first overtime, Kean would notch the game winner in the second extra session as
Lia DiPiazza dribbled up the right side and fired a pass across the cage, which allowed Mann to score near the far post.
Jordan Thompson led the Cougars with eight shots, while DiPiazza tallied seven.
Jenna Flemings improved to 3-0 after making three saves in 74 minutes.
Kean led Arcadia on shots (34-7), shots on goal (18-4) and corners (14-6).
