Union, N.J. (1/5/22) – Shannon McCoy and Brittany Graff combined for 43 points as the Kean University women's basketball team picked up a 64-54 win over Stockton University in NJAC action on Wednesday.
McCoy provided 23 points and eight rebounds while Graff added 20 points and four assists to help Kean improve to 5-1 in the NJAC and 7-5 overall this season. The Cougars were playing in their first game since December 11th with a break for finals and the holidays.
The Cougars had to shake off some of the rust as the Ospreys took a 10 point lead late in the first quarter (19-9) on a layup from Ionyonia Alves. The Cougars chipped away and trailed by five at the break (28-23).
Kean took their first lead of the day on a fast break from McCoy with over five minutes to go in the third quarter (33-32). The Cougars used that momentum and went on a 13-0 run to take a double-digit advantage into the final quarter.
Kean then stayed on the gas pedal and kept a double-digit lead for all but one basket down the stretch to pull away with the win.
Alves finished with 13 points and eight rebounds for Stockton (5-7, 3-3 NJAC).
Kean will not face off against their next scheduled opponent, The College of New Jersey, as they are in COVID-19 protocols. The Cougars are next slated to play at William Paterson University on Wednesday, January 12th.
