Brewer’s Two Goals Vaults Women’s Soccer to First NJAC Victory

UNION, N.J. (10/12/22) – Sonya Brewer notched a goal in each half to vault the Kean University women's soccer team to a 2-1 decision over Ramapo College for their first New Jersey Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday evening.

Delaney McGlade and Celine Brady tallied assists for the Cougars who improve to 4-5-4 overall and 1-2-2 in the NJAC. Carla Goodwin scored for the Roadrunners who fall to 4-6 overall and 1-4 in the NJAC.

Ramapo struck first with a double-assisted goal in the 28th minute for a 1-0 lead. Kean answered in the 35th minute with a double-assisted goal of their own to even the match at 1-1.

Brady flicked the ball over the top to McGlade. McGlalde controlled it with her body and flicked it over a defender to Brewer. The sophomore made two dribbles and beat the keeper left.

In the second half, Brewer notched the game-winner in the 69th minute scoring off a goalkeeper clearance that was served across the box by Tara Miner.

Kean led on shots (24-15) and shots on goal (11-6).

Brewer recorded eight shots, while Gracie Casais totaled four. Julia Masucci made five saves in 60 minutes of work.

Head Coach Brian Doherty and the Cougars will return to action in Wayne, N.J. on Saturday, Oct. 15th, against the Pioneers of William Paterson University at 5:00 p.m.
