UNION, N.J. (10/19/22) – Nico Ibanez scored and assisted on a goal as the Kean University men's soccer team bested New Jersey City University, 3-1 in a crucial New Jersey Athletic Conference match on Wednesday evening.
Isaac Guerrero and
Santi Alzate scored for the Cougars who improve to 6-6-4 overall and 2-2-3 in the NJAC. Anthony Salmeron notched a goal for the Gothic Knights who fall to 8-3-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the NJAC.
Kean tallied two goals in the first half, despite the shots being even at 7-7. Guerrero recorded the first goal of the half in the 27
th minute when the sophomore scored on a free ball near the far post. Ibanez increased the lead to 2-0 in the 39
th minute as the sophomore scored on a side pass from
Felix Pereyra.
In the second half, the Cougars pushed the advantage to 3-0 in the 75
th minute as Alzate scored on a header in the box which was served in by an Ibanez free kick.
Kean led on shots (19-13) and shots on goal (9-6).
Ibanez recorded four shots, while
Roger Parkin tallied three.
Dillon Konzelmann and
Dominic Ridge combined for five saves in 90 minutes of work.
