JERSEY CITY, N.J. (11/12/22) – Morgan Hall tallied nine kills and posted a .375 hitting percentage as the top seeded Kean University women's volleyball team advanced to the ECAC semifinals with a 3-0 straight sets sweep over #8 Brooklyn College in the ECAC quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.
Ashley Smith totaled eight kills and seven digs for the Cougars who improve to 19-13 overall. Tessa Winkleman totaled 11 kills for the Bulldogs who finish their season at 17-14 overall.
Hall and
Taylor Micheaux combined for nine kills as the Cougars took set one, 25-18. After trading the lead, Kean closed the set on a 7-2 run after hold a slim 18-16 advantage.
Kate Rutgliano,
Anne Beckemeyer and Smith all tallied three kills apiece as the Cougars held on to capture set two, 25-21. Kean opened on a 17-7 run, before Brooklyn shaved the lead down to 23-20. After a timeout, Rutgliano and
Bella Stem both notched kills for the victory.
Hall added five kills as the Cougars won a tight final set, 25-21. After again trading points, Kean held a slim 23-21 advantage late. The Cougars wrapped up the match with a Bulldogs attack error and an
Alison Kowalewski kill for the victory.
Micheaux totaled six kills, while Rutigliano, and Beckemeyer both recorded five kills apiece.
Gwen Hangey handed out 29 assists, while
Sian Seeger collected 10 digs.
