READING, Pa. (11/13/22) - A three goal second half lifted the top seeded Kean University Field Hockey team to the 2022 ECAC Division III Field Hockey Championship with a 3-1 victory over second seeded Alvernia University on Sunday afternoon.
Morgan Stump tallied a goal and was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player as the Cougars finish their season at 15-4 overall. Brooke Spezialetti notched a goal for the Golden Wolves who finish their season at 14-7 overall.
This is the Cougars second ECAC Championship in program history as they captured the 2008 Mid-Atlantic Championship with a 3-2 victory over Catholic University on Nov. 16
th, 2008. This is the first postseason championship under Head Coach
Leslie LaFronz.
After a scoreless first 25 minutes, Spezialetti converted on a penalty stroke to help Alvernia take a 1-0 just before halftime.
In the third, Kean scored twice to take their first lead of the afternoon at 2-1 entering the fourth. Stump notched the first goal off a
Jorja Hibschman feed in the 32
nd minute, while
Emma Killeen scored in the 45
th minute on a loose ball inside the circle.
Ja'Carra Jackson added an insurance goal in the fourth when the senior tapped in a loose ball in the 59
th minute.
Stump recorded five shots, while
Laura Stump tallied four.
Jenna Flemings made nine saves in 60 minutes of work.
