UNION, N.J. (11/19/22) – Five players scored in double figures as the Kean University men's basketball team remained unbeaten with a 72-60 non-conference victory over Rosemont College on Saturday afternoon.
D.J. Alicea totaled 17 points for the Cougars who improve to 5-0 overall. Jared White tallied 15 points and seven rebounds for the Ravens who fall to 1-3 overall.
Alicea and
Griffin Barker combined for 19 of the 33 first half points, as Kean shot 41% from the floor. After trading buckets, the Cougars attempted to pull away with a 9-3 run that expanded their lead to 31-20 on back-to-back Alicea hoops. Rosemont closed on a 7-2 run as Kean maintained a 33-27 lead.
In the second half,
Heem Burno and Alicea combined for 19 of the 39 second half points. After Kean opened on four straight buckets to push their lead to the largest of the game at 42-30, Rosemont countered with mini runs to cut the advantage down to four points on multiple occasions.
After the Ravens shaved the lead down to 54-50 with 6:07 remaining, the Cougars made back to back buckets which pushed their lead to 59-50 with 3:51 remaining. The free throw line was the name of the game down the stretch as Kean went 11-for-16 over the final 3:14.
Barker totaled 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Burno finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
Letrell West added 12 points and three assists, while
Jailen Jamison tallied 10 points off the bench.
