UNION, N.J. (12/3/22) – Griffin Barker totaled 19 points and five steals as the Kean University men's basketball team pushed their winning streak to eight games with a 74-58 wire-to-wire victory over Rutgers-Newark on Saturday afternoon.
Heem Burno tallied eight assists, five steals, five points, and four rebounds for the Cougars who remain unbeaten at 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Eli Camacho totaled 11 points for the Scarlet Raiders who fall to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the NJAC.
Barker scored seven of his 10 first-half points as Kean opened the contest on a 16-9 run. Newark answered with a 10-1 run to cut the lead down to 19-16 with just over nine minutes to play. The Cougars closed out the half on a 20-9 run for a 37-25 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, the Scarlet Raiders opened with an 8-3 run to shave Kean's lead down to 40-34 with 14:37 remaining. The Cougars answered with a 19-5 run that shut the door and extended the advantage to 20 points.
The Cougars maintained their double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest.
Letrell West totaled 13 points, while
JD Daniels tallied 11 points and
Jailen Jamison notched nine points and four assists.
