Union, N.J. (2/16/22) – The Kean University women's basketball team closed out the regular season winning their eighth straight game, defeating William Paterson University, 74-59.
The NJAC Tournament field is now set as #1 Kean will host the #8 The College of New Jersey/ #9 Rutgers-Newark winner on Tuesday, February 22nd at 7 p.m.
Rookie Macy Seaman had a monster night as she had career-highs in both points (23) and rebounds (14) with her first career double-double to lead all players.
After an early see-saw battle, the Cougars (17-6, 16-2 NJAC) got some breathing room with a 13-2 spurt that started midway through the second quarter and featured nine fastbreak points. The Cougars carried that momentum into the second half and never trailed the rest of the way, holding a double-digit lead for all but 12 seconds.
Senior Shannon McCoy finished with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists while Brittany Graff and DarRique Smith added 12 and 10 points, respectively. For the Pioneers (12-10, 11-7 NJAC) Justina Cabezas had a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds.
Prior to the game the women's basketball program honored the senior class of McCoy, Kayla Anderson, Sarah Olivero and Aniyah Moore.
