UNION, N.J. (4/12/22) – The Kean University softball team split a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader with Ramapo College on Tuesday evening.
Kean 6, Ramapo 1
Eliza Filus finished 2-for-4 with a homerun, four RBI's, and one run scored, while
Paige Metz went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and
Courtney Sherwood finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Karly Messina earned the decision after striking out a batter in 4 2/3 innings pitched.
Filus opened the scoring on the evening with her sixth homerun of the season as Kean lead 3-0. Messina added another run in the fourth as Sherwood was caught in a rundown which allowed Messina to score. Sherwood and Filus added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Sherwood smacked an RBI double in the sixth and Filus recorded an RBI single in the seventh.
Ramapo 3, Kean 2 (9 Inn.)
Gabriella Fredette finished 2-for-3 while Messina went 1-for-4 with an RBI and
Gianna Pickens finished 1-for-3.
Annabella Marino struck out two batters in the complete game loss.
The game was tied at 1-1 entering extra innings after both teams scored a run. In the eighth, Kean struck first with an RBI single from
Jenn Majorczak, before Ramapo answered with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning as the game remained deadlocked at 2-2 entering the ninth.
In the ninth, the Roadrunners tallied the walk-off game winner with a sacrifice fly.
