NEW YORK, N.Y. (4/13/22) – Duncan Beilke totaled 14 kills and posted a .346 hitting percentage as the third seed Kean University men's volleyball team advanced to the ECAC Tournament semifinals with a 3-0 straight sets sweep over sixth seed Hunter College on Wednesday evening.
Rajheem Meulens tallied seven kills and nine digs for the Cougars who improve to 17-11 overall and advance to Saturday's semifinal against Ramapo College.
Raymond Yu collected eight kills for the Hawks who finish their season at 12-8 overall.
Kean hit .326 for the match, while holding Hunter to a .080 hitting percentage.
In set one, the Cougars took their largest lead at 16-11 midway through the set. The Hawks stuck around and cut the lead down to one at 20-19. Kean closed the set with a 4-2 run, including kills from Meulens,
Kevin Molina and Beilke.
In set two, the Cougars notched five straight points for a 16-12 advantage. The Hawks stuck around again and cut the lead down to one at 18-17. Kean closed the set with a 7-3 run, including two kills from
Maxwell Thompson and one apiece from Beilke and Meulens.
In set three, the Cougars and Hawks were deadlocked at 19-19 when Kean called a timeout. The Cougars finished the match on a 5-2 run, including two kills from
Ryan DiCandilo and one apiece from Beilke and Molina.
Molina finished with eight kills and three assists, while Thompson and DiCandilo both tallied seven kills apiece.
Zach Noll handed out 37 assists, while
Cris Naranjo collected five digs.
The Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 16
th in the ECAC semifinals hosted by Ramapo College. Kean will face the Roadrunners in a semifinal match at 2:00 p.m.
