UNION, N.J. (5/14/22) – Eliza Filus finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs as the second seed Kean University softball team advanced to the Regional Final with a 3-2 upset of top seed and third ranked Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon.
Heather Clevenger tossed a complete game for the Cougars who improve to 32-8 overall. Brooke Matyasovsky went 1-for-2 with a homerun, two RBIs and a run scored for the third ranked Warriors who fall to 38-5 overall.
With the victory, Kean snapped Eastern Connecticut's 22 game winning streak. The Warriors last loss came against the University of Southern Maine on Apr. 2
nd.
ECSU took a 2-0 lead in the first with one swing of the bat as Matyasovsky recorded her 15
th homerun of the season with a shot to center.
Kean responded with a three RBI double in the third to give the Cougars their first lead of the afternoon at 3-2.
Skylar Hengeveld started with a hit by a pitch,
Gianna Pickens reached on a bunt single and
Paige Metz walked to load the bases for the NJAC Rookie of the Year. Filus blasted a shot into right field which cleared the bases.
After surrendering the homerun, Clevenger only allowed three hits over the final six innings.
