UNION, N.J. (5/3/22) – Jenn Majorczak finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs as the second seed Kean University softball team rolled into the winner's bracket of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament with a 9-1 victory over the fifth seed Stockton University on Tuesday afternoon.
Gianna Pickens went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Cougars who improve to 30-7 overall. Lilly James finished 2-for-3 with a homerun for the Ospreys who fall to 23-18 overall.
After falling behind 1-0 on a leadoff homerun from James, Kean responded with nine runs over the final four innings. The Cougars notched two runs apiece in both the third and fourth innings.
In the third, Majorczak recorded an RBI bunt and
Paige Metz stole home during a double steal. In the fourth,
Isabella Polash scored on a wild pitch and
Eliza Filus hit an RBI single.
Kean added another four runs in the fifth for an 8-1 lead. In the fifth,
Karly Messina scored on a wild pitch,
Jordyn Varone scored on a passed ball and both Metz and Majorczak tallied RBIs. Filus finished the scoring in the sixth when she scored on a wild pitch to end the game on a mercy rule.
Filus finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Metz went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Messina finished 1-for-3 with a run scored, while
Melody Caces scored two runs.
Heather Clevenger struck out a batter in the complete game victory.
