Women’s Volleyball Split Day Two of Garnet Invitational

SWARTHMORE, Pa. (9/10/22) – Ashley Smith totaled 26 kills and 18 digs over two matches as the Kean University women's volleyball team split Day Two of the Garnet Invitational hosted by Swarthmore College on Saturday.

Aubre Adams finished with 12 kills as the Cougars (1-3) dropped the opening match of the day to the host Garnets (4-2).

After falling in the opening set and capturing the second set with a .229 hitting percentage, Swarthmore took the final two sets of the match with 25-16 and 25-15 scores. The Garnets posted a .393 hitting percentage in set three and held Kean to a -.023 percentage in set four.

Smith totaled eight kills, six digs and two aces, while both Anne Beckemeyer and Taylor Micheaux each collected seven kills apiece.  Kylie Brua handed out 23 assists and notched eight digs. On defense, Sian Seeger (16) and Sedona Gaard (13) both tallied double digit digs.

Smith posted a double-double with 18 kills and 12 digs, while Beckemeyer totaled 10 kills and five blocks as the Cougars (2-3) closed out the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Clark (2-4).

After dropping set one, 25-17, Kean rallied to take the final three sets of the afternoon. Clark slowly declined as the match progressed hitting .061, .020 and .000 over the final three sets.

Bella Stem finished with seven kills and four block assists, while Adams totaled six kills, five digs and three block assists. Gwen Hangey posted a career-high 44 assists, while Seeger (16) and Madi DeMartini (12) recorded double digit digs.

Head Coach Don Perkins and the Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 13th, hosting the Red Hawks of Montclair State University in their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener at 7:00 p.m.
