UNION, N.J. (1/4/23) - Five players scored in double-figures as the Kean University men's basketball team extended its unbeaten streak to 13 games with an 87-60 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday evening.
Letrell West totaled 24 points and knocked down five triples for the Cougars who improve to 13-0 overall and 6-0 in the NJAC. Cameron Downs tallied 29 points for the Scarlet Raptors who fall to 2-11 overall and 0-6 in the NJAC.
West,
Griffin Barker, and
Jailen Jamison combined for 33 of the Cougar's 43 first-half points as Kean led 43-28 at halftime. The Cougars shot 66.7% from the floor and 50.0% from downtown. Kean opened the game on a 21-8 run over the first seven minutes. Camden responded with a 9-3 run to cut the lead down to 26-17 with 10:15 to play. Kean closed out the opening stanza on an 18-6 run to push their advantage to 41-21 with 90 seconds remaining.
West added another 11 points in the second half as the Cougars kept their field goal percentage over 50%. Kean maintained their double-digit lead throughout the second stanza despite Camden cutting the lead down to 11 three separate times. The Cougars closed the contest on a 34-16 run with seven from Jamison and six from both
Corey Thelisme and Barker.
Barker finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Thelisme added 10 points and seven rebounds. Jamison totaled 17 points and
D.J. Alicea collected 10 points as well.
In addition, West tallied his 1000th career NCAA point in tonight's contest. The senior had 361 points at Claflin University and currently has 658 points and counting with the Cougars.
