Women’s Soccer Comes Up Short Against NJCU

UNION, N.J. (10/18/23) – Two second half goals proved to be not enough as the Kean University women's soccer team (4-8-3, 1-4-2 NJAC) dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to New Jersey City University (6-5-4, 2-2-3 NJAC), 3-2 on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED!
  • NJCU were in the driver's seat for most of the match as the Gothic Knights notched three goals over the first 55 minutes.
  • The Cougars failed to convert on their first penalty kick of the evening as a Sonya Brewer attempt was stopped by NJCU keeper Sophia Mannino in the 73rd minute.
  • Kean would finally get on the board in the 77th minute when Kiera Quinn scored off a Mannino save that came from a Georgia Boberg free kick.
  • The Cougars added a second goal in quick fashion when a Brewer cross in found Carly Gleason, who flicked it past Mannino.
  • Kean had a chance to equalize the contest in the 89th minute, but a Sophia Lang penalty kick attempt was also stopped by Mannino.

INSIDE THE BOX
  • Brewer and Lang posted four shots apiece.
  • Boberg and Kaydence Oakley both tallied two shots apiece.
