Men’s Basketball Earns Back-to-Back Victories with Defeat of TCNJ

UNION, N.J. (2/1/23) – Heem Burno finished with 18 points, four steals and three rebounds for the Kean University Men's Basketball team who earned an 80-76 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over the College of New Jersey on Wednesday evening.

Jailen Jamison totaled 18 points for the Cougars who improve to 16-5 overall and 9-5 in the NJAC. Pat Higgins tallied 17 points for the Lions who fall to 7-14 overall and 6-8 in the NJAC.

First Half
  • Kean led 43-28 at halftime.
  • The Cougars shot 53.1% compared to 44.0% for the Lions.
  • TCNJ posted a 28.6% three-point percentage on 4-for-17 shooting.
  • Kean opened on a 14-4 run and extended their lead to 30-13 with 6:28 remaining.
  • The Lions were even with the Cougars for the final six minutes (15-15).
  • Kean collected 12 points off turnovers.  
  • Burno totaled 11 points, three rebounds and three steals.
  • Letrell West posted eight points on 4-for-7 shooting.  
  • Matthew Solomon tallied eight points and four rebounds for the Lions.
Second Half
  • TCNJ outscored Kean 48-37.
  • The Lions shot 57.7% from the floor and 53.8% from downtown.
  • The Cougars shot 48.0% from the field.
  • TCNJ erased Kean's halftime lead with a 15-3 run over the opening three minutes and trailed 46-43.
  • Kean attempted to pull away with a 19-12 run that put the Cougars back at double digits, 65-52.
  • The Lions crawled back with a 15-8 run to cut the Cougars lead to 78-76 with eight seconds remaining.
  • West knocked in two free throws to ice the contest.
  • Higgins and Jason Larranaga combined for 30 second half points.
  • Jamison tallied nine second half points for the Cougars.
