Union, N.J. (2/22/23) – The #3 Rowan University women's basketball defeated host #2 Kean University by the final of 68-58 on Wednesday evening in NJAC semifinal action.

Rowan will travel to take on top seed New Jersey City University, who defeated TCNJ in overtime, for the championship on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

It was a slow start for both teams, with neither team's offense really finding a rhythm until the second quarter.  Even then, the Cougars (16-10) were only able to push out to a three point advantage at the break.

Kean used a strong start to the third quarter to push out to the game's first double-digit lead (40-28) with 6:48 to go.  Shannon McCoy poured in seven points and Macy Seaman added four in the spurt.

The tide took a big swing at this point and favored the Profs (19-8) the rest of the way.  Reagan Russo tied things up at 42-all with a three-pointer with 2:27 on the clock.  Rowan then used the charity stripe to their advantage in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 points in the final 10 minutes from the free throw line.  Grace Marshall was the catalyst scoring 12 of her 18 points all in the fourth quarter.  In total, the Profs ended the game on a 40-19 run (from the momentum swing in the third quarter).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Dakota Adams had a game-high 19 points along with a team-high eight rebounds to lead three players in double figures for Rowan.

McCoy finished the night with a team-high 17 points to finish her Kean career with 1,923.  Kayla Anderson recorded a double-double to close out her career (10 points and 13 rebounds).

Rowan shot 70% from the free throw line (21-of-30) to aid in the win.
