Newport, R.I. (3/25/23) – The Kean University men's lacrosse team led wire-to-wire as they defeated Salve Regina by the final of 16-11 on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, head coach Shelley Sheiner has recorded 208 victories at Kean making him the all-time winningest coach in program history, surpassing his mentor Hawley Waterman.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kean (8-1) jumped out on top with the game's first two goals in the first seven minutes of action. Salve responded with one of their own, but that would be a close as they would get as the Cougars rolled off 10 uncontested goals over the next 25 minutes to give them all the cushion they would need.
Salve (4-3) had a spurt of five goals in the third quarter to cut the deficit in half (12-6), but Kean's Connor Batjer stopped the surge with 2:41 left in the third with Kean's 13th goal of the day.
The Cougars added three to start the fourth quarter and Ryan Reilly closed out the scoring for Salve Regina with three goals to end the game in a 50 second span.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Batjer finished with three goals while Anthony Porter collected seven assists on the day. Nick Thorne had a game-high four goals along with two caused turnovers.
Steven Thorne led the defensive unit with three caused turnovers and four groundballs.

Kean travels to Stevenson University on Wednesday.
