Punta Gorda, Fla. (3/5/23) – The Kean University baseball team's rally fell just short as #5 Baldwin Wallace University won by the final of 10-9 on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was a game of bunches as the Yellow Jackets (7-2) scored four in their half of the third inning, highlighted by homeruns off the bats of Sean Kolenich and Nick Clark.
Kean (8-3) answered right back and took the lead with a five spot in the same inning. Highlighting the inning was an RBI double from Phil Marcantonio and a three run homer from Gianni Marano.
Marcantonio added one more with a solo homerun in the fourth inning for a 6-4 lead.
Baldwin Wallace took the lead back in the top of the sixth aided by a Cougar miscue. They added insurance with a single run in the eighth and two solo homeruns in the ninth.
The Cougars did not go quietly pulling within one with an RBI single from Brett Hilsheimer, an RBI double from Caleb Rodriguez and an RBI groundout from Kyle Adorno. Baldwin Wallace was able to work out of the jam with a fly out, stranding the tying run at third.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Marano was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI while Rodriguez was 3-for-5 with a double. Marcantonio finished with two hits (double and homer), two runs scored and two RBI.
Vincent Capolupo and Kolenich each finished with three RBI for the Yellow Jackets.
