Softball Sweeps Day Three of Fastptich Dreams Classic

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (3/8/23) – Gianna Pickens went 4-for-10 with two homeruns, five RBI's and three runs scored over two games as the Kean University softball team swept the third day of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in South Carolina.

Kean 4 (7-4), Gettysburg 0 (4-2-1)
  • The Cougars struck first in the bottom of the first with an Autaum Hilyer RBI single that scored Melody Caces.
  • Kean held the 1-0 lead into the sixth when the Cougars tallied three runs on two errors and one hit for a 4-0 advantage.
  • After Emily Zuppa earned a bases loaded RBI walk, Brianna Sciulli reached on a fielder's choice which drove in Karly Messina and allowed Andee Perseponko to score on a Paige Forry throwing error.
  • Annabella Marino fanned two batters in a complete game shutout.
  • Messina went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Perseponko finished 1-for-2 with a run scored.
  • Zuppa went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
  • Jordyn Varone tallied a run scored.
  • Jess Campana finished 2-for-3 with a double for the Bullets.
Kean 16 (8-4), Hunter 1 (0-3)
  • Kean got on the board in the fourth with a Marino RBI single.
  • The Cougars added four more runs in the fifth, including RBI's from Pickens, Filus, Hilyer and Messina.
  • Pickens added to her total with a two RBI inside the park homerun in the sixth.
  • Kean poured it on in the seventh with nine runs on nine hits and two errors.
  • Pickens added her second inside the park homerun of the game along with RBI's from Caces, Hilyer, Mikayla Rapaport, Zuppa and Sciulli.
  • Abby Burns struck out 12 batters in the complete game victory.
  • Pickens finished 4-for-6 with five RBIs and three runs scored.
  • Caces went 4-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI's.
  • Perseponko finished 3-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Zuppa and Sciulli went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI each.
  • Pickens two homeruns is the first since Filus hit two against Muhlenberg on Mar. 26, 2022.
Head Coach Margie Acker and the Cougars will return to action on Friday, Mar. 10th in the North Myrtle Beach Fastpitch Dreams Classic against Waynesburg at 11:00 am and Eastern Nazarene at 5:00 p.m.
