Punta Gorda, Fla. (3/9/23) – The Kean University baseball team fell to Mitchell College, 14-8, on Thursday afternoon, concluding their spring break trip.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kean (9-5) jumped out to an early 8-0 lead after two innings, chasing starter Camren Varney. Highlighting the offense was a two RBI double from Javier Alfonso in the first as well as a two RBI double from Tyler Provost in the second.
Mitchell (3-0) responded in the bottom of the second with five runs, highlighted by a three run homer by Dougie DelaCruz.
They inched closer with two more in the third with a two RBI single from pinch hitter Justin Adorno.
Mitchell took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth on a bases loaded walk and RBI single from Adorno.
They added insurance with three runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth. In total Mitchell collected seven extra base hits.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Tyler Daly (1-0) earned the win in relief after tossing seven and two thirds innings allowing just three hits.
Brett Hilsheimer, Alfonso and Provost all finished with two RBI each for the Cougars.
UP NEXT:
Kean returns home to New Jersey and will host Alvernia University on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
