Union, N.J. (4/14/23) – The Kean University baseball team almost replicated yesterday's result and today topped Ramapo College, 16-2 in NJAC action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cougars (15-11, 3-5 NJAC) again had a five run inning to start the game's scoring, this time in the second inning. Tyler Stone and Nick Houghton provided RBI singles while Caleb Rodriguez added an RBI double. Brett Hilsheimer lofted his first homerun of the season, a two run blast to round out the frame.
Phil Marcantonio made it 6-0 in the fifth with an RBI single.
Ramapo erased the shutout with a single run in the sixth as Justin Garthaffner collected an RBI single.
Kean put the game away with a four spot in the seventh and five more in the eighth. Highlighting the seventh was a two RBI single from Justin Teixeira and an RBI double from Hilsheimer. Dylan Beyer had a bases-clearing triple in the eighth and later scored on a passed ball.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Houghton, Hilsheimer and Teixeira all had three hits each while Teixeira and Stone each score three times.
Nolan Rowan improved to 5-1 after tossing seven solid innings allowing just six hits and one run. He walked three and struck out three.
