Union, N.J. (4/27/23) – Montclair State University used a four run, seventh inning to put the game out of reach as they defeated Kean University, 8-2, Thursday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
MSU (22-9, 9-6 NJAC) plated a single run in the second and third. With runners on second and third with one out, Anthony Guarino hit into a double play, but the runner in Zach Stearns scored since the play was not a force play.
In the third, Sam Angelo singled home Ryan Malek who singled to lead off the inning.
Kean (22-13-1, 11-3-1 NJAC) scratched across a single run in the bottom of the fifth, but left the bases loaded. Caleb Rodriguez recorded the RBI with a one out single.
The Red Hawks then opened the game up in the seventh with four runs and five hits, most with two outs.
The Cougars got one back in the bottom of the same inning as Phil Marcantonio doubled home Christian Pellone who reached on a single.
Ryan McKenna added insurance in the eighth with a two RBI single.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Jack Haveson (2-0) earned the win after five innings. He allowed one run and three hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Offensively McKenna had two hits and three RBI while Gisonda was 3-for-4 with two doubles.
