GALLOWAY, N.J. (5/2/23) – Nick Thorne tallied a career-high five goals, including the game-winner with 2:56 remaining and his 100
th career point as the sixth seeded Kean University men's lacrosse team advanced to the Coastal Lacrosse Conference semifinals with a 15-14 upset victory over third seeded Stockton University on Tuesday evening.
Connor Batjer totaled five points on three assists and two goals for the Cougars who improve to 11-7 overall and advance to Friday's semifinal against second seeded CNU at Salisbury University. Dante Poli tallied six points on four goals and two assists for the Ospreys who finish their season at 12-6 overall.
First Half
- Dylan Johnson scored twice, while Batjer notched a goal and an assist as Kean and Stockton traded goals for the first 18 minutes.
- The Ospreys ended the half scoring five of the next six goals to take a 10-7 lead at intermission.
Second Half
- An early Stockton goal to open the half pushed the Ospreys lead to the largest of the game at 11-7.
- The Cougars responded with four straight, including two from Thorne, to level everything at 11 with just under four minutes left in the third.
- After trading scores again, Stockton tallied a man-up goal for a 14-13 advantage with under-five to play.
- Kean answered right back with two Thorne goals in less than a minute as the Cougars took the lead for good at 15-14.
- Thorne recorded his 100th career point on the game-winner.
- The defense held the Ospreys to just one shot in the final three minutes.
